HEALTHY BODIES
Healthy Bodies: Getting Healthy/ Staying Healthy (2009)
With 75% of adults projected to be overweight by 2015, the Healthy Bodies gallery supports statewide initiatives to promote wellness and combat this trend toward obesity. The gallery is dedicated to the human body and its care, focusing on: nutrition, exercise, sleep, mental health, dental health, and disease prevention.
Our ultimate goal is to motivate visitors to change their behaviors and lifestyle choices, enabling them to develop and maintain healthy bodies.
The decision by the gallery’s advisory board to include mental health preceded the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech, but importantly now will provide educational resources to help improve mental health throughout this region. Long considered a taboo topic not to be discussed—even in the museum setting—this gallery will provide factual information and a venue where asking questions and seeking answers will not only be accepted, but encouraged.
