HEALTHY EARTH
Healthy Earth: Understanding and Safeguarding Our Natural Resources (2009)
This gallery will answer questions about our environment, what lives in it, and how we use its resources. At this stage, our concept for the gallery includes, but is not limited to:
Natural Resources—recognizing our rich natural treasures and understanding the need for active conservation of our resources.
Geology—from minerals to coal to karst topography.
Meteorology—global and local climates.
Water—including rivers, watersheds, and oceans.
Energy—sustainability and alternate energy sources.
The Museum has just installed its new Living River exhibit—a major anchor for Healthy Earth. The exhibit is enabling us to teach students in western Virginia—the birthplace of Virginia’s rivers—about Virginia’s watersheds and the human impact on these rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. Students have an opportunity to handle specimens of whelk, barnacles, and crabs, species that are unfamiliar to many living in western Virginia. |
