The Science Museum of Western Virginia needs volunteers! Adult volunteers are needed to serve as guides for school groups during the week and for the public on the weekends, and to monitor exhibit areas throughout the week. A science or education background is helpful, and training is available. Volunteers interested in our newest exhibits—a living river exhibit stocked with fish and aquatic animals, neon art and science, and dental health—are especially required. |
| |
Volunteers are needed in almost every department of the Museum, including the Museum Offices, Visitor Services, Exhibits, Animal Care, Science Shop, Collections, Programs, Special Events, and Education Departments. |
| |
Position responsibilities range from assisting with live animals and educational classes, to leading tours, preparing mailings, distributing posters, cataloging items in our collection, special events, construction and repair, and helping to monitor activity in our shop and in our neon exhibit. Volunteers are especially needed to act as Docents/Tour Guides for groups visiting the museum 9am to 12pm Tuesday- Thursday from October to June. |
| We are also interested in finding volunteers to be Saturday Birthday Party Coordinators. Duties would include set up of party room, assisting party guests with the party schedule and being available for general assistance if needed. Times would vary between 10am and 4:30pm, Saturdays Only. |
| Volunteers have their parking paid while volunteering, and receive a free Science Museum membership after 50 hours of volunteer service. |
